Have you seen the first of these fast-paced shorebirds yet? They are the ones that often hang out in dry half-bare fields like those behind public schools. They nest in sandy gravel-covered flats like unpaved parking lots. And they call in frenzied flight loops around the field if they feel threatened.

Let’s Hear It for the Killdeer

I have not seen my first spring-arriving Killdeer yet but others have. I suspect if I went out near the local high school later this week, I’d probably hear some. They come back as soon as they can.
