Every time I\u2019ve seen one in the past month, it has been being harassed by other birds. In fact, that\u2019s the easiest way for me to find them: listen for the angry calls of small birds.<\/p>\n<h2>Can a Red-tailed Hawk Ever Just Perch in Peace?<\/h2>\n<p><a is the hawk sitting, looking rather dangerous and brooding, in a tree.<\/p>\n<p><a \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Eventually after a few passes, the hawk gives up and wings away.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is that Small Warrior Bird?<\/h2>\n<p>A close up look at the dive bomber revealed it is a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher. According to the AllAboutBirds website, it weighs about 6 g.(0.2 oz.)<\/p>\n<p>The average Red-tailed hawk weighs 690-1456 g. (24 \u2013 51 oz.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2684\" src=\"http:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom-400x259.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Blue Grey Gnatcatcher 2014 On NaturalCrooksDotCom\" width=\"400\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom-400x259.jpg 400w, https:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom-200x129.jpg 200w, https:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom-461x300.jpg 461w, https:\/\/naturalcrooks.com\/rambles\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/BlueGreyGnatcatcher2014OnNaturalCrooksDotCom.jpg 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis Blue-gray gnatcatcher is a <em>relative of the Victor, taken a year previously in another park.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So if that was the smallest Red-tailed Hawk out there, it would take 115 Gnatcatchers to equal it in weight. That is one brave little bird! But given how easily one measly Blackfly can drive me away, I\u2019m not surprised the Gnatcatcher was successful.
